Botox (Botulinum Toxin)

Botox injections involve administering a toxin that temporarily restricts muscle movement, it is injected into specific muscles preventing nerve signals from triggering contractions.

The application of Botulinum Toxin, is used to enhance areas affected by dynamic wrinkles—those formed by repeated facial expressions. The most commonly treated areas include the forehead, frown lines, and crow’s feet. However, it can also be applied to other concerns, such as a gummy smile, drooping mouth corners, enlarged chewing muscles, and nose wrinkles (bunny lines), among others.

Type of anesthesia: Topical (with a neural distractor to reduce pain) | Duration of application: 5 min

Areas of aplication

The most commonly treated areas include the forehead, frown lines, and crow’s feet. However, it can also be applied to other concerns, such as a gummy smile, drooping mouth corners, enlarged chewing muscles, and nose wrinkles (bunny lines), among others.

When to start

It is now recommended to begin botulinum toxin treatments between the ages of 25 and 30 (commonly known as "baby Botox") as a preventive measure to delay wrinkle formation. Once wrinkles become deeply set, the toxin alone may not fully eliminate them, often requiring the additional use of dermal fillers for optimal results.

Taking effect

The effects of the toxin begin to appear within 2-3 days after application and fully develop around 10-14 days. Therefore, we provide all our patients with a follow-up appointment at the two-week mark to assess the results. If needed, a complimentary touch-up is offered in the previously treated areas.

Long lasting effects

The results generally last between 4 to 6 months, though this varies for each individual. The longevity of the effects depends on factors such as muscle strength and the frequency of facial expressions. Consequently, some patients may retain the results longer than others after treatment.
