Gynecomastia surgery aims to enhance the chest area in men who experience an increase in glandular tissue or fat, which causes discomfort. Various factors can contribute to an increase in fat or glandular volume in men, resulting in a chest appearance that may diminish one's confidence.

Initially, we may try to identify the cause of the increased volume, the right treatment will depends on a variety of factors; however, in many cases, no specific factor can be identified. In these instances, the surgery may be the most effective way to removes the excess fat or glandular tissue to improve the appearance of the chest.

Surgery

The surgery typically involves performing liposuction on the chest; however, in some cases, it may be necessary to make incisions to remove excess glandular tissue behind the nipple or even remove skin if there is an excess.

Recovery Journey

  • Recovery time: 1-2 weeks

  • Most of the sutures used are absorbable, so they do not need to be removed as the body naturally dissolves them.

  • In many cases, drains are placed to help remove fluid and are typically taken out once the output drops below 30 ml per day.

  • It is recommended to avoid strenuous activity and exercise for at least 2-3 weeks to prevent wound complications.

  • While noticeable changes can be seen immediately after surgery, the final results typically take 3 to 6 months to fully develop.

  • Proper scar care is essential to ensure they heal well. Protect your scars from the sun, friction, and irritation. After 1-2 weeks, once the skin is closed, apply sunscreen and moisturize daily.

  • Maintaining a healthy diet after surgery is important, as significant weight gain can affect the results and make them less noticeable or subtle.

  • Compression garments should be worn 24 hours a day for a minimum of 4 weeks, only removing them for showers.
