Breast Lift

Mastopexy (breast lift) is a procedure that repositions the breast tissue, including the skin, fat, and nipple, to enhance the shape and prevent sagging. The primary factor contributing to the appearance of sagging breasts is the position of the nipple in relation to the rest of the breast.

Surgery techniques

There are various techniques for performing a breast lift, depending on how much the nipple needs to be repositioned. It can be done with the placement of a variable-sized implant, along with a circular incision around the nipple. However, more commonly, a technique involving an anchor or inverted T-shaped incision is used, which typically yields a more favorable result.

Right approach

To determine whether a conservative or more extensive surgery is needed, a prior evaluation is required. During this assessment, you and the doctor will work together to decide on the most suitable approach for you. In many cases, a small implant combined with skin removal may be recommended to provide lasting support, firm the tissue, and help maintain the desired shape for a longer period.

Recovery Journey

  • Recovery time: 1-2 weeks

  • Sutures are removed approximately 7 days after surgery.

  • A special compression bra should be worn throughout the day for at least 4 weeks post-surgery to provide support, alleviate discomfort, minimize bleeding risks, maintain implant position, and reduce inflammation.

  • For the first 3 weeks, it is advised not to lift anything heavier than 10 pounds and to avoid raising your arms above shoulder level, as this helps prevent displacement of the implant and ensures the shape is maintained.

  • For the first 6 weeks post-surgery, it is important to avoid strenuous exercises involving the pectoral muscles (e.g., push-ups, barbell exercises, and certain back exercises), to prevent internal scarring from tearing, bruising, implant displacement, or internal bleeding.

  • After about a month and a half, you can gradually resume normal activities.

  • The final result typically takes 3 to 6 months to fully settle, though changes in shape can be noticeable immediately after surgery.
